Arabia's Leading Musicians Unite for Bokra

The five-day countdown begins for the launch of new charity single Bokra (Tomorrow) featuring leading Arabic musician singing for a better future

From 20 November we can expect to be hearing a lot of Bokra, Arabia's answer to Do They Know its Christmas? - the iconic 1984 charity single sung by a Western collective of leading music stars from Bob Geldof to Bono. With the legendary Quincy Jones as producer, and Shakira providing endorsement with a video introduction, Bokra (which means Tomorrow) is already gaining global music kudos.

Arabic stars lending their vocals include Waed from Saudi Arabia, Diana Karazon from Jordan, Fahad Al Kubaissi from Qatar and Asma Lmnwar from Morocco.

Sony Music will release the track as part of a compilation album, also entitled Bokra, on 20 November. As well as the title charity single, the album brings together Arab and international artists in one album for the first time, including Kadim Al Sahir, Marwan Khoury, Tamer Hosny, Michael Jackson, Usher and Shakira, among others. Proceeds raised from the sale of this album, iTunes downloads, pledges and donations made via www.tomorrowbokra.org will be collected by the Arab Fund for Arts and Culture in support of the United Nations World Food Program, Abu Dhabi Music & Arts Foundation and other beneficiaries, to finance educational programs in music, arts and culture for children from across the Arab world.

Bokra made its world premiere at an exclusive red-carpet gala event on 11 November at the One&Only The Palm, Dubai (where else?!) under the Royal Patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Manal bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Women Establishment, wife of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Presidential Affairs, UAE.Around 400 VIP guests – including the many of the artists who lent their voices to the single, from Saber Rebai and Latifa from Tunisia, to Tamer Hosny from Egypt. In total the musical collaboration features 24 Arab stars from 16 nations across the Middle East and North Africa.

The glittering evening was hosted by Quincy Jones and Badr Jafar, both Executive Producers on the charity single, which is in fact an Arabic re-adaptation of Jones’ Grammy-award winning song Tomorrow (A Better You, A Better Me). For added glamour the event was presented by MBC TV personality Raya Abi Rached and included a special introductory speech by Egyptian actress Yousra with live performances by four of the artists featured on the track – Waed from Saudi Arabia, Diana Karazon from Jordan, Fahad Al Kubaissi from Qatar and Asma Lmnwar from Morocco, and then a dazzling firework display lit up the night.

If the single's as much of a success as the party we're expecting a number one hit.
